This fall, I’m thinking about running in the FATS Forty 40-Mile Ultra Trail Run or the Pine Mountain 40-Mile Ultra Trail Run. The most I’ve ever run in one stretch is about 17-18 miles, and that was a couple years ago. I have done day-hikes in the 30-35 mile range several times, though. I figure, why not give it a shot?

I ran my first road marathon earlier this year, since then I have hit the trails preparing for a 50K. Aren’t you near the JFK50 ultra? Part of it is on the AT…it’s calling you!

  2. It looks like the JFK is up near Maryland, Dave. I’m down here in Atlanta. I think it makes sense to stay local for my first ultra disaster :)

But yes, the trails are calling. They are indeed calling.

Ah you’re right, it’s a northern VA, WV, MD thing. Were you Whistler on the AT last year? I think we met on BPL but not in “real life”, I was a few weeks behind on the trail. My trail name was Comet.

  4. Hey Comet! Yes, I was Whistler in ‘05 and ‘07… and probably again somewhere in ‘09. I’ve got my AT pics here if you’re feeling nostalgic: http://www.flickr.com/photos/marklarson/sets/72157600553114109/

If you have your hike photos up anywhere, I’d love to see them.
